My name is Heather Banet a Junior at Saline High School. I believe that the Michigan government should provide coverage for abortions when the women's insurance company does not. The number of abortion clinics in Michigan is only twenty two and they charge an average of 900 dollars per. In Michigan woman have to purchase a separate add-on to their health insurance policy if they want abortion coverage but most health insurance companies don't even offer it. Michigan's policies on abortion are in desperate need of positive change. My question is why are our beloved state of Michigan's laws on abortion unfair to women?
Rape is an obvious and clear example of why Michigan's abortion laws need reform. Abortions in the case of rape should be covered. Clearly, if abortion is not available through the woman's health insurance policies the state should pay for it. to help prevent unwanted pregnacies. It is no question that rape is a problem in the United States. If a woman is raped and becomes pregnant she should have the right to an easily accessable cost free abortion. The woman should not have to pay for this with out of pocket money because it was not her choice or fault in becoming pregnant.
Imagine your daughter is in med school at UofM. One night while walking to her dorm back from her late night biology class the shadow of a man looming over her appears out of the corner of her eye. She tries to run fast but she trips and a gun is put to her head. She is raped and becomes pregnant. working two jobs to pay off her debt. The nearest abortion clinic charges more than she can afford. Paying for this abortion would force her to drop out of college let alone raising a baby itself.

The nearest abortion clinic charges more than she can afford. Paying for this abortion would force her to drop out of college let alone raising a baby herself.
