When You Realize You Can Go Back to Sleep
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night confused beyond belief?
You sit up with a blank face staring at the time on your phone, or the bright red numbers on the digital alarm clock. The time that you see does not register, and your daze is ongoing. All of a sudden your mind turns on and the gears turn fast inside your head trying to make sense of the situation. You begin to wonder, what day is it? Am I supposed to be somewhere right now?
Then, the numbers you have been staring at process the time that you have been staring at for the past five minutes. You realize it is 3:45am and you can sleep at least another three hours. In one abrupt motion, you slide back under the covers experiencing that warm and cozy feeling. You even feel yourself slip unconscious.
AWESOME!
Frustration builds within as you glare at the much hated red light dangling in front of you. You begin to tap your fingers anxioiusly on the stirring wheel, or fidget with the radio. The flashing red hand to your right reaches 5...4...3... Your hands grip the stirring wheel, release the break, and your car inches past the thick white stop line. You tap the gas as the blue crosswalk man appears. Anger turns to excitement, for you know, in exactly one second, a glorious color change will take place.
SWEET!
You neglected to do your math homework. There was nothing you could do about it, you had four hours of practice followed by writing an entire essay last night. You knew that the math teacher would either collect the homework or take it for a completition grade. There was no way out of receiving a 0/10 in powerschool, but you had to sacrifice your math grade in order to maintain your struggling A minus in English. You arrived in math and immediately took your seat. The bell rang and you looked up at the teacher. "Are there any questions from the homework last night?" No one raised their hand. After a long drawn out pause he speaks again, "today's lesson is long so you can put that away, we don't have time to check it."
YES!!!

When You Realize You Can Go Back to Sleep
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night confused beyond belief?
You sit up, stare at nothing, fail to gain awareness, attempt to read the bright red numbers on your digital alarm clock (cumulative parallel). The time that you see does not register, and your daze is ongoing. All of a sudden, gears turn, brain awakens, and eyes blink as you try to come to senses (periodic). You begin to wonder, what day is it? Am I supposed to be somewhere right now?
Then, the numbers you have been staring at process the time that you have been staring at for the past five minutes. You realize it is 3:45am and you can sleep at least another three hours. You feel yourself sliding under the covers, experiencing that warm and cozy feeling, closing your eyes tight, and drifting unconscious (parallel gerunds).

The Blue Crosswalkman
Frustration builds within as you glare at the much hated red light dangling in front of you. You begin to tap your fingers anxioiusly on the stirring wheel, to fidget in your seat, and to change radio stations (infinitive parallel structure). The flashing red hand to your right reaches 5...4...3... Your hand grips the stirring wheel, your foot releases the break, and your car inches past the thick white stop line (parallel clauses). You tap the gas as the blue crosswalk man appears. Anger turns to excitement, for you know, in exactly one second, a glorious color change will take place.SWEET!
